--- path: industries/telecom title: Telecom desc: Find the postcodes where fewer than half of premises can get gigabit broadband. date: Oct 21, 2026 --- # Find the postcodes where gigabit broadband falls short Network planners and policy teams look for the places where gigabit coverage lags. This example filters the ONS broadband coverage layer to the postcodes in the Norwich, Peterborough and Ipswich areas where fewer than half of premises can get gigabit broadband. ## Postcodes below 50% gigabit availability, East of England **Data:** the ONS Geography broadband coverage layer, one point per postcode, last updated 8 November 2023 (Open Government Licence v3.0), added from the Data Hub **Method:** keep the postcodes whose gigabit availability is below 50% ```text Receipt on "Broadband coverage by postcode" 1. filter Gigabit_av < 50 ``` The coverage figures are the source's, as of its November 2023 update, not a measurement of ours. ```map uk-gigabit-below-half ``` ## Run it on your data Upload your network footprint, planned build areas or survey results and put them on the same map as the filtered postcodes. Change `50` in the filter to set another threshold. See [supported files](/docs/upload-anything/files). ## Frequently asked questions **Is availability the same as take\-up?** No\. The source counts premises that can get gigabit broadband, not those that buy it\. **Why does the map cover only three postcode areas?** Because the source layer does: it holds the NR, PE and IP postcode areas and one Cambridge postcode\. ## Next step - [Open the map in the gallery](/gallery?industry=telecom) - [Upload your network data](/docs/upload-anything/files) - [Book a demo](/demo)
