# Files

Drop a file onto the map, or click **Upload** in the toolbar. GISOwl reads the format from the file's extension.

## Vector

| Format | Extensions | Notes |

| GeoJSON | `.geojson`, `.json` | |
| Shapefile | `.zip`, `.shp` | Zip the `.shp` together with its `.dbf`, `.shx` and `.prj` |
| GeoPackage | `.gpkg` | |
| KML / KMZ | `.kml`, `.kmz` | |
| GPX | `.gpx` | Tracks and waypoints |
| FlatGeobuf | `.fgb` | |
| GeoParquet / Arrow | `.parquet`, `.geoparquet`, `.arrow` | |
| DXF | `.dxf` | |
| GeoRSS / Atom | `.rss`, `.georss`, `.atom` | |
| kepler.gl | `.keplergl`, `.keplergl.json` | A saved kepler.gl map |

## Tables

| Format | Extensions |

| CSV / TSV | `.csv`, `.tsv` |
| Excel / OpenDocument | `.xlsx`, `.xlsm`, `.xlsb`, `.xls`, `.ods` |

A row is placed by its coordinates, a WKT or GeoJSON geometry column, or its address: see [Spreadsheets](/docs/upload-anything/spreadsheets).

## Raster

| Format | Extensions | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| GeoTIFF | `.tif`, `.tiff` | Read in place as a Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF; nothing is converted |

A plain PNG or JPEG has no location, so it can't be placed on the map.

## 3D

| Format | Extensions |
| --- | --- |
| 3D models | `.glb`, `.gltf` |
| Gaussian splats | `.splat`, `.ksplat`, `.spz`, `.sog` |
| PLY | `.ply`, as a splat or a model |

## Size

One upload can be up to 500 MB. A file of features can be up to 256 MB; for larger data, [add it by URL](/docs/upload-anything/urls) or query it where it lives.
